EWSECO Program Committee:

Peter Buxmann is Professor for Software Business and Information Management at Darmstadt University of Technology. He supervised numerous scientific as well as industry-related research projects and is head of HIGHEST, the start-up incubator of TU Darmstadt and board-member of the House of IT, where he is responsible for interdisciplinary research and networking between industry, politics and science. His research interests are the economic principles of the Software- and Social Media Industry as well as Information Management and the Future Internet Economy, in particular IT Security and Privacy. Peter Buxmann is author of more than 200 publications in renowned national and international journals, like Information Systems Research, Journal of Information Technology, Information Systems Journal etc.,  and conference proceedings (e.g. International Conference on Information Systems or European Conference on Information Systems).

Peter Buxmann studied Economics and Management with focus on Information Management at Frankfurt University, where he also received his Ph.D. After being visiting scholar at the Haas School of Business at the University of California in Berkeley, he qualified as a professor. In 2000 he was appointed Professor for Information Management at TU Freiberg until he received a call to the Darmstadt University of Technology, where he now is head of the  Software Business & Information Management Group.

Thomas Aidan Curran is an independent programmer, investor and advisor to numerous Internet companies, and a recognised authority in enterprise computing, security, and software development.

In 2013 he became Chief Technology Officer of Hybris AG responsible for the company’s product development, cloud technology strategy and integration with SAP. He left Deutsche Telekom in October 2012 where he was DT Fellow, Senior Vice President Technology and Innovation of Deutsche Telekom AG. Thomas initiated the DT Group’s program for fostering talented young engineers and software developers, while driving innovation in a number of strategic software programs.

Thomas joined Deutsche Telekom AG in March 2009 as Chief Technology Officer. In this role, he was responsible for transforming Group’s Innovation Management, Research and Development “Deutsche Telekom Laboratories,” Internet Service Provider “T-Online,” IPTV platform “T-Home Entertain,” and the mobile cloud product family “Connected Life and Work” into a more modern and agile product development organisation.

Passionate about building products and entrepreneurship, Thomas founded Component Software Inc. (Cambridge, Mass) and five high tech software companies in his career so far.

He worked for a number of software and technology companies including SAP, Microsoft, Groove Networks and IBM, as well as media companies including News Corp, Bertelsmann, and BBC. His work in the open source effort Digital Media Project stems from his interest in simplifying access to media.

A graduate of University of Pennsylvania, he has held research and teaching roles at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin, Technical University Berlin, and the University of Arts in Berlin. He has written numerous books about software engineering and process modeling.

Since 1993 Gerald Eichler has been working as an engineer for research and development (R&D) divisions of Deutsche Telekom, starting with satellite communications. In 1994 he moved to the protocol and signaling section, sharing and leading projects with special focus of ATM and IP network and service quality issues at the Technologiezentrum Darmstadt.

From July 1999 he was in business with T‐Systems working in the areas of knowledge management and e‐learning. His focus has been extended towards web technology‐based mobile and context‐aware services. Since 2009, joining Telekom Innovation Laboratories, he has been concentrating on information relevance, smart data analytics and communications as well as to the technological consultancy for innovative spin‐offs.

Slinger Jansen is an assistant professor at the Department of Information and Computer Science at Utrecht University. He is one of the leading researchers in the domain of software ecosystems and co-founders of the International Conference on Software Business and International Workshop on Software Ecosystems. He is lead editor of the book “Software Ecosystems: Analyzing and Managing Business Networks in the Software Industry” and of several others. Besides his academic endeavors he actively supports new enterprises and sits on the boards of advisors of several start-ups, one of which is ThinkEcosystems.com.

Thomas Kude received his PhD from the University of Mannheim and has been an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the University of Mannheim’s business school since 2012. His research focuses on platform ecosystems, software development and IT management. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Business & Information Systems Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Business Economics, and The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems. Thomas presented his work at various conferences, including the Interational Conference on Information Systems and the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. Recently, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Arkansas and the University of Maryland.

Karl Michael Popp is senior director of mergers and acquisitions in the corporate development team at SAP SE, one of the largest software companies in the world, responsible for holistic analysis of acquisition opportunities and post merger integration.

He has authored six books and edited three books on the software business, software ecosystems, mergers and acquisitions and commercial use of open source. He is on the program committee of the International Software Ecosystem Workshop since 2011.

Karl Michael has founded and  run the European workshop on software ecosystems (EWSECO) since 2012.
